Monday: Sarah Gadon Stars in a Film Based on a Philip Roth Novel

Sarah Gadon introduced her mom to director James Schamus at The Yale Club's after-party for the premiere of Indignation. The film is based on a Philip Roth novel in which Gadon’s character, Olivia Hutton, a college-age WASP who recently attempted suicide, goes on a date with Logan Lerman’s character, Marcus, the son of a Jewish butcher, and unexpectedly services him orally. The year is 1951, and the repercussions are dire. Schamus sent a script to Roth, but he refused to read it. Roth did, however, write a glowing letter of support after he saw the film.

The Cinema Society, Bloomberg, and Thomas Pink hosted a screening of Equityat the Museum of Modern Art with a sumptuous after-fête at SixtyFive. The film, which celebrates women, was co-written and produced by Sarah Megan Thomas and Alysia Reiner (Orange Is the New Black). In the movie, Anna Gunn (Breaking Bad), plays Naomi Bishop, a hard-driving investment banker. Alysia Reiner stars as her old college friend, Samantha, who is investigating her firm, while Thomas plays Erin Manning, Bishop’s ambitious underling. The project was financed by a female banker.
Michael Strahan hit Whiskey Park and ordered a Summertime Spice cocktail to complement his fries and California rolls.
