At the Cinema Society’s debut of Horns on Monday, Daniel Radcliffe’s character, Ig, grows a pair of horns after lying.
Juno Temple plays Merrin, who has been in love with Ig since they were ten. How did they achieve that kind of closeness onscreen? “Hanging out with Dan,” she said. “One of the greatest human beings.”
Radcliffe actually wore prosthetic horns while filming. Possible Halloween costume? “I would absolutely wear them out,” the actor hinted.
Alicia Keys sported a behemoth baby bump at her Black Ball gala for Keep a Child Alive on Thursday. She said that her son “kissed my belly earlier in this week.” Other musical divas in attendance included Aretha Franklin and Madonna.
Elton John headlined his own AIDS Foundation fundraiser at Cipriani Wall Street on Tuesday. So, what’s the biggest challenge with fighting AIDS right now? “The stigma, 30 years on,” he said, speaking of the continuing health crisis. “People have great medicines to take, but they’re afraid to come out and say they are HIV positive—they’re not being responsible enough,” he told reporters. “And it’s pissing me off.” Brooke Shields also attended the dinner.
Jared Leto jetted in from Brazil to attend Tuesday’s Rimowa store opening. Alessandra Ambrosia and Jeremy Piven also turned up. Leto joined the fun dinner later on at Lever House.
Katie Couric and Barbara Walters were honored at Wednesday’s Women’s Media Center Women’s Media Awards at Capitale. Couric wore Carmen Marc Valvo. “I love him,” she told Gotham.
Gloria Steinem indicated that she’d met Barbara Walters in the 1960s. “She was the first woman I ever saw on television who was not a beauty contest winner or serving coffee,” noted the famed feminist.
Meanwhile, UNICEF hosted a ball on Thursday at Marquee, which was dressed up to look like a Mad Hatter Tea Party. Sebastian Stan showed up in a purple mask but said it wasn’t a particular character: “It’s just a mask I picked up.” Yup, sometimes a mask is just a mask.
“He is literally starving in every frame of the movie,” director Dan Gilroy said of Jake Gyllenhaal in Nightcrawler at Monday’sNew York premiere.
How did Gyllenhaal lose 30 pounds for his riveting role as a news videographer in search of blood on the street? “Commitment,” said Gyllenhaal, who indicated he wanted to look “like a coyote—sort of starving in a way.”
“There was some wild chemistry between us,” added Renee Russo of her costar Gyllenhaal. The film—a can’t-look-away thriller—captures gunshots and gore. Meanwhile, Gotham ran into Beyoncé and Jay-Z in the hall leading to the theater. They rushed to their seats, just before lights out.
On Sunday, at Victor’s Café, which is situated next door to Sting’s new musical, The Last Ship, The Police frontman encountered Bruce Springsteen and his wife Patti sipping mojitos. The Boss tipped the bartender generously. That night, Taye Diggs caught the off-Broadway hit show iLuminate, while rapper T.I. and his wife, Tiny, were spotted at Philippe.
