You wouldn't exactly know it from looking at him, but photographer Peter Lindbergh is a supermodel magnet. So nearly every last famous young model filed into Cipriani Wall Street on Wednesday for amfAR's annual gala, where Lindbergh, along with Vanessa Redgrave and Joely Richardson, was being honored.
Erin Heatherton wore a silver off-the-shoulder gown. Karlie Kloss was shivering and had goose pimples on her legs before she put her cape back on. One model was taller and thinner than the next.
Sasha Luss had on a sexy backless dress. Lindsay Ellingson wore a springy strapless gown (way off the shoulders) by Wes Gordon. Lily Aldridge looked like an angel with white wings in Rosie Assoulin. Barbara Fialho, the Brazilian babe, was one of the very tallest.

And then there was Princess Eugenie of York, Fergie’s daughter, decidedly not tall, in a belted emerald green dress. Jane Krakowski, with bobbed blonde hair, also turned up in jewel green. Trend alert.
But the supermodels just didn’t stop coming: Chanel Iman, Ajak Deng, Alek Wek, Karolina Kurkova, Selita Ebanks, Coco Rocha, Crystal Renn.

Meanwhile, Krakowski, in Zac Posen, made an important point. “These people here at amfAR are finding a cure for HIV/AIDS,” she said of the organization, which is investing $100 million in the fight against AIDS in order to find a cure in the next six years.
Krakowski then had to run inside—she was first up onstage, with her “tweet” song. Speaking of entertainment, Nile Rodgers and Chic performed "Le Freak." Uh-huh, all the supermodels were freaking out and gyrating.

Wearing a onesie and a sparkly bowler, Grace Jones polished off the evening with an insanely wonderful rendition of "La Vie en Rose." She came back out—twice, in different getups—and stood on a table and hoola hooped through the encore. What an entertainer!
Oh, and the night was not only glam, fun, and sexy—$1.7 million was raised. Apparently the truly chic can look good and do good.
