This fashion legend had a breakdown when she realized her money and fame didn’t equal the love she had in her youth. A cougar before Madonna blazed the trail, she started dating an actor in his 20s. He was expensive to clean up and to keep in the style. Let’s call her “A” and him “B.”
It took about six months for one of her staffers to tattle that “B” was a popular rent boy. At first, furious, she prepared to evict him from the new Chelsea loft she’d decorated for him, then she thought about his prowess in bed. “A” knew that her pal, let’s call this fashionista “C,” would give her the right advice: He was going through the exact same thing. “C” advised “A” to have a little chat with “B” and offer to retire him from the “business” with a generous allowance. “C” also counseled her to bring another man into their bed so “B” would get what he needed without going behind her back. “B,” a typical Brazilian, was able to go both ways without any hang-ups. “A” loved the idea of doubling her pleasure and followed “C”’s lead.
“A” and “B” lured so many different boys into their luxurious lair that the hairdressers and makeup guys can’t stop gossiping about the glamorous couple’s numerous ménages-à-trois. In certain artistic circles, “A” and “B”’s story has replaced The Real Housewives of New York City as their favorite reality show. (The fact that most of these call boys are flying higher then a space shuttle only adds fuel to the fire.) Word of “A”’s lecherous exploits has started to filter back to her staff, and everyone is worried about what this scandal could do to the value of her stock if the bloggers start blabbing. (Think what Perez Hilton did to Carrie Prejean.) Who else would tell you these things?
The annual Frederick Law Olmsted Awards Luncheon in the Conservatory Garden of Central Park showcased the spectacular spring blooms of Central Park and featured a wildly colorful fashion parade that rivals England’s Ascot. Our own society queens led the charge: Children’s author Karen LeFrak, Jamee Gregory, Evelyn Lauder, Janna Bullock, Cynthia Lufkin, Somers Farkas, Wendy Carduner, Jessie Araskog, producer Pamela Fielder (best dressed) with her mother, Josie, Eleanora Kennedy and this year’s cochairs Tara Rockefeller, Gillian Miniter, Muffy Miller, Stephanie Winston Wolkoff andVicki Foley. This event, in its 27th year, was presented by the Women’s Committee of The Central Park Conservancy and raised a staggering $2.1 million. Angela and Wade Thompson, long time supporters, received an award. Other mad hatters who stood out included Bette Midler, Michele Gerber Klein, Marcia Mishaan and Sharon Bush.
IN THE SPIRIT
Sex and the City’s Cynthia Nixon, CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, Janet Wallach and Dr. Robert W. Marion were honored at the 55th annual Spirit of Achievement Luncheon at the Pierre Hotel. The event was presented by Albert Einstein College of Medicine’s National Women’s Division, which Madge Miller, Andrea Stark and Renée Stein - berg chaired this year. Past honorees include Meryl Streep, Christie Brinkley and Billie Jean King. MSNBC’s Willie Geist emceed the evening, which raised $200,000 for the clinical research program at Einstein’s Children’s Evaluation and Rehabilitation Center. The group will also host Einstein Hamptons Family Day at the Ross School in Bridgehampton this August 9.
At Cipriani 42nd Street, the Jeffrey Modell Foundation honored 10-month-old Dawson Bornheimer, diagnosed with and cured of Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (SCID) as a result of mandatory newborn screening. Founders Vicki and Fred Modell established the Jeffrey Modell Foundation in 1987 in memory of their son, Jeffrey, who died at the age of 15 of pneumonia due to an underlying primary immunodeficiency disease. Jill and Bobby Zarin, Lisa and Jeff Blau, John Mechanic and Luciana and Michael Solomon attended.
