The well-dressed women of New York tend to share the same secrets: an arsenal of killer shoes, the name and number of the city’s best tailor and… Keith Lissner. Whether or not the name rings a bell, you’ve no doubt seen Lissner’s designs on the social circuit, gracing the figures of everyone from ladies who lunch to the nightlife bunch. The designer himself came onto the scene via the first season of Bravo’s The Fashion Show, and since then has been rising in the style ranks and getting by with a little help from his friends.
“New York City is the epicenter for culture in the world,” Lissner says. “Simply living here influences everything I do.” He lists power lunches at Pastis and watching movies from the balcony of The Paris Theatre as some of his favorite (and most fashionable) ways to experience the city, although the macaroni and cheese with truffles at The Waverly Inn is not far behind.
While Lissner designs both his eponymous line and the more casual Keith by Keith Lissner, he is known, above all, for his cocktail dresses. Versatile, sophisticated and just plain fun, the garments resonate with boldface names such as Adelina Ettelson Wong, Devorah Rose and Brooke Shields. His muse, Guest of a Guest co-owner and cofounder Rachelle Hruska, can be seen nearly nightly in one of his fab frocks.
But one of Lissner’s biggest moments ever? “To see Janet Jackson... wearing one of my dresses,” he gushes. “I’m a huge fan!” Despite an obvious penchant for dressing women, Lissner says he plans one day to branch out into menswear and accessories. The city is waiting…. Visit keithlissner.com.
