The Luxury Education Foundation (LEF) is proud to celebrate its 10 Year Anniversary. Launched in December 2004, LEF is a public not-for-profit organization that focuses on educational programs for undergraduate and graduate students in Design and Business related to the creation and marketing of luxury goods. LEF programs provide students with various platforms to engage with senior executives in leading luxury firms to understand and appreciate the unique properties of this industry and inspire students to become future business and creative leaders in the luxury field.
LEF currently runs nine programs including the interdisciplinary Master Class, "Luxury Retail: From Design to Marketing Strategies," the Luxury Round Table, the Conversation Series, the Executive Breakfast Series, the Retailing Internship Program, the Scholarship Program, the Block Week Program, the Marketing Luncheon and the Corporate Classroom series, all of which have grown organically during the organization’s 10 years of existence.
LEF’s first program, the interdisciplinary Master Class between Columbia Business School and Parsons The New School for Design, remains one of LEF’s hallmark programs. The course gives MBA and design students the opportunity to work collaboratively on developing design concepts and offering marketing proposals to some of the world’s leading luxury companies. Considered a revolutionary notion when launched, the course was designed by Ketty Maisonrouge, Adjunct Professor at Columbia Business School, and has been taught for the last few years alongside Jessica Corr, Assistant Professor at Parsons The New School for Design. With the active participation of companies submitting case studies, this unique semester-long class is a true incubator for new, innovative ideas.

To commemorate its 10 Year Anniversary, LEF is thrilled to announce the creation of a new 10th program, the Luxury Craftsmanship Workshop, in collaboration with Parsons The New School for Design. For the course, Parsons will select 16 highly accomplished students to work in four teams of four with expert craftsmen from participating luxury companies thus providing the students with an extraordinary, hands-on educational experience.
Through the Luxury Craftsmanship Workshop, students from Parsons The New School for Design learn directly from participating brands’ senior executives, designers and artisans to gain an understanding of heritage through the lens of form, material and technique. Students work alongside designers and artisans to acquire knowledge of how specific techniques and approaches have developed to become a part of each company’s core values. Inspired by their new understanding of each brand, students will translate this knowledge into a design of their own, working with Parsons faculty to apply techniques learned onto a product that speaks to the particular “craft knowledge” of that brand.
The introductory week of the Luxury Craftsmanship Workshop began in January 2015 and the companies who participated in this truly unique program are: Graff, Loro Piana, Maclaren, and Van Cleef & Arpels.
