The murals of the rotunda at the Pierre, painted by Edward Melcarth, have been a signature of the hotel since 1968.
It’s 190 Maybach 57 Zeppelins (at a cool $525,000 a pop). It’s two duplex penthouses at 15 Central Park West (around $48 million each). It’s the amount that President Obama asked his cabinet to cut from its budget before the end of July. And it’s also the cost of the renovations at the Pierre, which recently reopened after 15 months of chic tweaks that have thoroughly updated the hotel while retaining its neo-Georgian charm. New guest rooms with completely redone marble bathrooms (stocked with Molton Brown amenities) and high-end retail (including luxe jeweler de Grisogono) are just a few of the noteworthy enhancements. And the new lobby lounge, 2 East, is sure to become a destination for guests and locals alike. Also: Le Caprice, considered a classic among London foodies, is slated to open later this summer. Welcome back. The Pierre, 2 East 61st Street, 212-838-8000.
