The highly-anticipated solo restaurant, Henry, from James Beard Award nominee Joseph Johnson made its debut last week at the Life Hotel on West 31st Street.
The new spot, which features a wide range of Pan-African-inspired menu items, comes off the tailwinds of Johnson’s successful run at Chefs Clubs last year.
Expect the star chef to reprise crowd pleasers from his Chefs Club residency—think con’con and house roti. New additions include Chinese pork sausages and a never-before-seen “AfroPot” for two that includes king crab, prawns, corn, clams, and mussels.
The piri piri clams made their debut last week when Henry opened in the Life Hotel.
Johnson will be joined behind the bar by longtime friend and mixologist Pam Wiznitzer, who has created a seasonal cocktail program for the spot.
In the fall, Johnson will also debut a fast-casual location called Fieldtrip in Harlem. The concept will offer customers a menu of rice bowls, buns, salads, and dumplings to start, with a variety of melting pot ingredients. A preview of dishes from Fieldtrip will be offered to attendees of the U.S. Open through September 9.
