Hundreds of food industry insiders and chefs made their way to the Rainbow Room last Friday, to celebrate and pay homage to outgoing James Beard Foundation President Susan Ungaro at this year's James Beard Foundation annual gala.

A multi-course meal was served at the event and featured dishes from celebrity chef Lidia Bastianich and Fortunato Nicotra (Felidia), Barbara Lynch (Barbara Lynch Gruppo), Jonathon Sawyer (The Greenhouse Tavern), Michael Solomonov (Zahav), Mathew Woolf (Rainbow Room), and Ghaya Oliveira (Daniel). Larry Stone, a James Beard Award-winning sommelier, curated the evening's wines.
The silent and live auction packages, which included a four-night stay at the Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman as well as tickets to the 10th annual Cayman Cookout hosted by James Beard Foundation Award-winner Eric Ripert; an 18-course dinner at Thomas Keller's French Laundry; and an eight-course dinner and wine pairing for 12 at the Rainbow Room, among other offerings, raised over $230,000 to support the James Beard Foundation’s mission and programs.
Ungaro, who served as president of the foundation since 2006, oversaw the organization's turnaround and is credited with making the James Beard Foundation both a leader in the culinary world and robust champion of chefs across the country.
