What did Skarsgard shout out at the debut of Lars von Trier's controversial new film starring Shia LaBeouf? Read on for more on that, and a trio of other eccentric premieres that took place last week.

Stellan Skarsgard Shouts a Bold Claim at Nymphomaniac: Volume 1 Premiere

Absolut Elyx debuted Lars von Trier’s Nymphomaniac: Volume 1—starring Shia LaBeouf (absent from the premiere) and including real sex by porn doubles—at MoMA last Thursday. The reporter next to me asked lead star Stacy Martin if she kept the prosthetic vagina. “No, that’s in the bin,” she assured us. What did her parents think of the film? “My parents have seen it and really liked it,” she said. “But I have really cool parents.”

Stellan Skarsgard, also in the flick, thinks what Trier did is very fascinating. “Working with him, I feel like we’re two kids playing in a sandbox,” he offered. “Even the really dark scenes, you do it with a lot of humor and generosity from him.” Maybe he was kidding, but before we went into the theater Skarsgard yelled that a penis shown in the film is Trier's. Director's cut?

Aaron Paul and Bryan Cranston Reunite at Need for Speed Afterparty

The Cinema Society and Bushmills Irish Whiskey debuted Need for Speed, starring Aaron Paul, last Tuesday. While the film has a crazy-thin plot and falls very flat, Paul is one of the nicest stars. He mentioned that he had originally thought, "Oh, no, another video game movie. But once I turned the first page, it had great stories . . . Great characters,” he claimed. Better than the characters are the impossible stunts and car crashes. “I did a lot of the driving in this film," said Paul. "Technical stuff, drifting around a corner, driving backwards, reverse 180. I did three-and-a-half months of training.”

Paul's Breaking Bad buddy, Bryan Cranston, later joined him at the Jimmy at The James rooftop afterparty, where Bushmills served Dino’s Dram and Tobey’s Tune Up, drinks named for characters in the film. But no one drove off the roof—phew.

Tilda Swinton Makes Her Vampire Flick Debut

W Magazine and The Cinema Society debuted Jim Jarmusch’s film, Only Lovers Left Alive, on Wednesday. Again, you’re going to have to be in the right mood to sit through this wantonly languid project. Jarmusch’s vampires looks like rock stars, and the only real blood sucking you will witness are hip vampires like Tilda Swinton sucking a frozen blood pop.

“I’ve always wanted to make a vampire film,” said Swinton on her way into the theater. Jarmusch noted that he hadn’t really done research. “I’ve read a lot of vampire literature in my lifetime, and seen a lot of vampire films, but we added one little thing: that vampires wear gloves when they leave their habitats." This film doesn’t bite, but wow is it slow.
