In support of GrowNYC, Gotham Bar and Grill is introducing its third annual greenmarket prix fixe lunch menu ($25). The 12-week program, which began yesterday, offers a new menu highlighting a different Union Square Greenmarket farm each week. One dollar from the sale of each lunch benefits GrowNYC's educational programs.
This week’s menu spotlights Cherry Lane Farm and includes green garlic soup with sunchokes, leeks, spring onion, and new potato parmesan emulsion; goat cheese-stuffed zucchini blossoms with smoked eggplant, panisse, and sauce verte; and an optional ($7) strawberry shortcake with market strawberries, white chocolate ganache, and Thai basil ice cream. For vegetarians or those committed to eating green, there isn’t a better lunch menu in the city.
In addition to the prix fixe, Gotham Bar and Grill will host Swiss Re and GrowNYC for the annual Grow to Learn NYC Benefit on June 18, with all proceeds going towards the Citywide Garden Initiative. Bon Appétit editor in chief Adam Rapoport will act as emcee for the evening's entertainment, which includes readings by Calvin Trillin. Gotham chef Alfred Portale has developed the menu with help from friends Dan Kluger (ABC Kitchen), Bill Telepan (Telepan), and Adam Longworth (The Common Man). 12 East 12th St., 212-620-4020
