Culture Watch: The Lincoln Center Festival
May 30, 2012 | by —Jessica Ferri | Homepage
This year's Lincoln Center Festival packs an incredible amount of fine art into a few weeks, from July 5 to August 5. Highlights include a one-man production of Macbeth from the National Theatre of Scotland, starring none other than the dynamic Scottish actor Alan Cumming. Directed by John Tiffany, the play takes place in a mental institution where Cumming, as Macbeth, is the lone patient.
The Paris Opera Ballet, one of the oldest ballet companies in the world, will perform selections from the French masters of the 20th century and the dance-opera Orpheus and Eurydice. And the festival will celebrate the life and work of Curtis Mayfield, who is responsible for pop music hits "Gypsy Woman" and "People Get Ready," with a special tribute concert featuring The Roots, Sinéad O’Connor, and more on July 20. Packages sold according to genre (theater only, dance only, etc.) or special VIP entrance to opening night shows are available now. You can also purchase tickets individually, but those will sell out fast! 212-875-5000
