ORIBE DOES IT HIS WAY
From the late 1980s through the early 1990s, Oribe was as huge as the hair he designed for the biggest models in the world. Cindy, Linda, Naomi, Christy—they all had their manes tamed by the tattooed superstylist. A detour into rehab and a move out of New York briefly put the brakes on his career momentum, but by the late-1990s, Oribe was back on top, personally styling megastars like Jennifer Lopez; by the mid- 2000s, he’d begun creating amazing looks for luxury brands like Louis Vuitton and Giorgio Armani, as well as memorable editorial for W and Vogue. Now Oribe enters a new phase in his professional life with Oribe Hair Care (from $29), a line of shampoos, conditioners, and styling products launched this spring. From the packaging (jewel-toned and regal) to the formulas (ultraluxe and beautifully scented), the collection is the perfect way to celebrate Oribe’s 30 years in the business. CHANGE WOULD DO YOU GOOD
We recently charged Travis at Bumble and bumble with a high-drama hair transformation (i.e., chopping 14 inches off our beloved mane). The brand’s Downtown headquarters seemed the perfect place to take our locks, since it’s widely considered a mecca for the tress-obsessed. Even with an intense case of pre-cut jitters, we felt relaxed in the bustling salon staffed with gregarious—and, might we add, amazingly dressed—stylists. The resulting razored bob (a little Katie Holmes, a little Clara Bow) proves that the ultrahip crew at the House of Bumble holds the key to any trendconscious fashionista’s heart. HIGH AND DRY
Blow, the New York Blow Dry Bar, the go-to spot for NYC’s discerning blowout addicts, launches some additions to its haircare line this month, and also debuts a new, jaunty package design. Faux Dry ($20), an oil-absorbing dry shampoo, is essential for prolonging the life of your blowout; Tress Relief ($22), a leave-in conditioner, restores and softens heat-styled hair; and Blow Up ($21), a root-boosting spray, provides long-lasting volume. All Blow products are free of harsh detergents and preservatives and are fortified with proteins that help restore hair’s luster. GREEN GIANT
In celebration of Earth Day (April 22), Privé’s Laurent Dufourg introduces eco-friendly Privé Concept Vert Rejuvenating Pure Shampoo ($28) and Rejuvenating Pure Conditioner ($30), both of which use a proprietary air-powered technology—you need only about half as much product to achieve the same results as with other shampoos and conditioners. Another benefit: Salon clients can return empty bottles to Privé and they’ll be sent back to the manufacturer to be refilled. Need more? The products are made with organic extracts; the bottles are recyclable; and it was Dufourg’s “lifelong dream” to create a line that would help reduce his salons’ carbon footprint.
