A New York Fashion Week regular since 2002, English designer Matthew Williamson has a stand-out style that’s popular with celebrities like Keira Knightley, Helena Christensen, and Gwyneth Paltrow. Though he loves his home base of London, Williamson still enjoys the sights, sounds, and tastes of the Big Apple.

SHOPPING SPOTS
For clothes: “My personal style is a mixture of the traditional and the new. I like finding unexpected combinations, such as the pair of Dries Van Noten classic lace-up pumps in gold that I picked up in Barneys.”
For the dog: “Barneys also has a great collection of leather collars and leads for my American spaniel, Coco.”
For vintage: “Frock NYC, on Orchard Street, is amazing for one-of-a-kind vintage couture. It’s packed with designers such as Ossie Clark and Halston, and never fails to inspire.”
For food: “Chelsea Market has an energetic atmosphere and a huge selection. Chelsea Market Baskets in particular are great for gifts—the Bounty hampers are my favorite.”
For interiors: “I find ABC Carpet & Home irresistible, particularly its antique rug selection. And the store itself is impressively grand.”
For flowers: “The Flower District on 28th Street is perfect for unusual, exotic florists, and seems a vibrant jungle in the city! I like to get there early for the best cut lilies and roses.”

SIGHTS TO SEE
Open Spaces: “I’m thrilled about the opening of the High Line. I love the idea of taking something so industrial and abandoned and turning it into something beautiful and relaxing. A true urban jungle.”
Art Smart: “I always find the Met inspiring, particularly the re-created 18th-century rooms. Also the CRG Gallery in Chelsea for its light installations.”
