TUCKED AWAY on Centre Market Place, arguably one of the most charming blocks in all of New York, is the Ric Pipino Salon, his first city salon since he shuttered both his former space in the Bryant Park Hotel and his Miami outpost. “It just had a really nice vibe about it and I fell in love with it,” he says of the jewel box-sized locale, highlights of which are a well-edited retail section featuring Taschen books, vintage barware, and Pamela Love’s edgy jewelry. Oh—and three custom-designed Fendi salon chairs (more about those in a moment).
“I really wanted to focus on New York again—it’s actually a relaunch of my whole brand,” Pipino says. This reintroduction includes a product line, slated to be oncounter by year’s end, and plans for a second salon in Midtown—welcome news for Pipino’s loyal (and high-profile) clientele, who come from around the country to get time with his shears. “We try to be friendly to everyone who comes in the door and give lots of love, no matter who they are,” says the father of three (he and wife Jenne Lombardo welcomed a new son in July). “That’s really the key.”
Which leads us back to the Fendi chairs: It’s very easy to feel the love while sitting in one of those. “They’re superexpensive. But they’re so hot and sexy,” he laughs. “The texture around the chair reminds me of a bracelet around someone’s waist. They’re just really cool.” 3 Centre Market Pl., 212-871-5533; pipino.com
NEW YORK FAVORITES Brunch: “More before I had three kids, to tell you the truth. Now you’re up already at 7 AM, so you’re having brunch at 9 o’clock.”
