Jessica Stam and Chrissie Miller
Chrissie Miller and I met at her apartment on Thanksgiving night after spending the day with family. We stayed up late telling funny stories—and bonded quickly. We’ve become very close friends, and have so much fun together. Here, she divulges to me her favorite things about her hometown.
HER FAVORITES
1. The most inspiring part of New York as a designer is the people. They have such an individual sense of style.
2. I’ve lived in the East Village since college—each block is different, and there are still punks running around!
3. Art is integral to fashion. Seeing new artists helps me understand where we fi t into New York’s collective consciousness.
4. I love listening to music, whether it’s the band of the moment or Jay-Z in a nightclub.
5. Opening Ceremony is like a museum. I’m honored that my brand, Sophomore, is sold there.
6. Fashion Week! It’s overwhelming but exciting. I usually end up with “Fashion Week Flu,” but it’s worth it.
7. I’m a big fan of vintage shops. The hunt excites me! My favorites are Circa Now, No.6 and my secret, The Salvation Army.
8. For new collections, Sophomore codesigner Madeleine von Froomer and I go to Parson’s Design Library and study everything from Alaïa to ’70s sportswear.
9. St. Marks Place is its own little village with souvenir shops, good food, sunglasses for days and now there’s a Pinkberry!
10. What’s more quintessentially fashion than the Met Ball? It’s such a great New York fashion tradition.
