They were teammates in the social swim until the hungry brunette had an affair with her best friend’s financier husband. This elegant swan is constantly photographed at fashion shows and galas, and she married into one of America’s wealthiest families. Her young husband was handsome, athletic and rich; when she walked him down the aisle the other debutantes cried. The most exclusive clubs welcomed her, and her children attended envy-inducing schools. If you read W you know this golden-haired beauty’s name. Let’s call her “A.”
This raven-haired knockout always wanted to be rich and famous. She wasn’t to the “manor” born, but she was determined to marry into it. N’est-ce pas? Her marriage fell short because her husband didn’t have the money she thought he did, yet her media career soared when she began sleeping with the boss. Let’s call her “B.”
“A” and “B” (considered two of the chicest women in America) became friends on the red carpet, and it wasn’t long before they were seen everywhere together. “B” risked her place in high society when she started an affair with “A”’s husband, “C.” When “A” realized what was going on, she confronted “B” and “C.” “A” left “C” on the spot and “C” dumped “B.” Now the former BFFs avoid each other on a nightly basis and are in divorce court fighting for worthy settlements.
The city’s cutest tykes and their families came out to celebrate Easter at Doubles, the private club in the Sherry-Netherland Hotel, at the fifth annual Peter Cottontail Easter Egg Hunt and lunch. Once again the club’s guiding light, Wendy Carduner, transformed the charmed space into a springtime wonderland with balloons, brightly colored straw baskets, stuffed animals and much-larger-than-life bunnies and ducks. Among those enjoying the activities for the afternoon were Michelle Marie Heinemann and son Hudson, Joanne de Guardiola and family, the Fowlkes family and the Carey family.
Kips Bay celebrated the opening of its 37th annual Decorator Show House with a star-studded gala and dinner. The East 71st Street property, owned by developer Aby Rosen, paid tribute to Albert Hadley this year. Most notable was the Hadley-inspired first-floor parlor designed by Bunny Williams. Even more amazing, however, was a re-creation of Gloria Vanderbilt’s teenage bedroom, which she presented with son Anderson Cooper at her side. Other decorators who showcased their work this year were Mayor Bloomberg’s designer Jamie Drake, Charlotte Moss, Juan Montoya and Janna Bullock, whose atrium featured a photo mural from Sam Taylor-Wood and furniture sculpture from Russian designer Anya Zholud. Among those spotted at the preview were designer Mario Buatta, Debbie Bancroft, Celerie Kemble, Audrey Gruss, Elle Décor editrix Margaret Russell, Marcia and Richard Mishaan, Penelope Green, Jennifer Skoda and others of that ilk and stripe.
