Tuning In

The role the media plays in this town is formidable: Whether we’re addicted to magazines, newspapers, TV, blogs, or radio, as New Yorkers we’re without a doubt inf luenced every day in myriad subtle—and not-so-subtle—ways.

And we wouldn’t change that for the world.

So, welcome to the Gotham Media Issue! In these pages we hear from some of the biggest talents in the industry, including Vanity Fair editor Jane Sarkin, music mogul Lyor Cohen, New York Post columnist Andrea Peyser, and the editor in chief of Men’s Health, David Zinczenko. We also put networking sites like Facebook, MySpace, and ASmallWorld head-to-head to rate who’s best at what. Elsewhere we welcome the opening of Top Shop and catch up with jewelry designer Donna Distefano, cosmetic dentist Thomas Connelly, and womenswear designer Pamella Roland. And we are proud to partner with the Tuberous Sclerosis (TS) Alliance for its 35th anniversary gala, “Destiny: Cure.”

Enjoy!

Congratulations to Jennifer Gould Keil, the New York Post’s new real estate columnist, who has taken over her beloved late husband’s “Gimme Shelter” column. The column, which chronicles boldface New Yorkers’ real estate hits and misses, will continue to be a must-read. Braden Keil, dubbed the “prince” of the Post’s newsroom, was a Manhattan fi xture known for his dapper ways, quick wit and true charm. He would be proud to see Jennifer carrying on his column and keeping the Keil name in the paper’s tradition.

Braden and Jennifer met and fell in love in the Post newsroom, where Jennifer has been a contributing reporter since 2002. Jennifer has also worked for The Philadelphia Inquirer and The Village Voice; freelanced as an on-air reporter, international assignment editor and producer for CNN; written for such publications as New York magazine, Elle, and London’s Daily Express; and reported on confl ict zones in the former Soviet Union and the Balkans, as well as doing a piece on the Gaddafi family.

She is also the author of Vodka, Tears, and Lenin’s Angel: A Journalist on the Road in the Former Soviet Union. The mother of five-year-old Braden Jr. and three-year-old Kaitlin, she is at work on a new book about Braden’s heroic battle with cancer.

We wish her the best of luck in her new job.
