When the Going Gets Good
As an editor it gives me a thrill to meet people worthy of hero worship and learn what makes them tick—which is why in this issue I’m excited to present some of the media world’s biggest “gets.” From Vanity Fair’s Jane Sarkin and the New York Post’s Andrea Peyser and Richard Johnson (who avoid the spotlight as behind-the-scenes rainmakers of their publications) to Elle’s Robbie Myers and David Zinczenko of Men’s Health (whose forward thinking keeps them one step ahead in these uncertain times), these professionals are truly at the top of their game. We also include megastars Jimmy Fallon and Lyor Cohen, and learn the secrets of their buoyancy. And as Zinczenko would say, it’s survival of the fittest—now more than ever.
The women who balance career and family are always the most inspiring to me. And one of our favorite interviews was with a woman who did just that: the late Natasha Richardson (who appeared on Gotham’s December 2005/ January 2006 cover). An exquisite screen and stage actress and mother, she once shared with me her recipe for keeping it all in perspective: “Eat too much, drink too much, and have a laugh.” Her tragically sudden death was like a comet expiring in mid-trajectory. Her light shines on in our hearts.
