It was only appropriate for Firmdale Hotels to choose Soho’s cobblestoned Crosby Street as the location for its first luxury inn outside of London. After all, the other Soho already has a hotel from Firmdale’s husband and-wife team, Tim and Kit Kemp. But though it speaks with an accent (afternoon tea is served in the hotel’s Crosby Bar), the Crosby Street Hotel is adjusting quite nicely to this side of the Atlantic.

The neighborhood’s art-world credentials are celebrated with a collection of original pieces (like the lobby’s 10-foot-tall human head shaped from letters of the alphabet) that fi lls the hotel and its courtyard. Large metal-framed windows bathe the building in natural light, helping Kit Kemp’s interiors—the 86 rooms and suites featuring 40 different design schemes—spring to life. Also of note: Three private rooms of varying sizes can accommodate up to 150 people—perfect for a rehearsal dinner or engagement party. In this quirky fantasyland, antiques mix with modern tchotchkes and no color, whether green, purple or the orange that covers the screening room’s 99 leather seats, is too loud. And who knows loud better than New Yorkers? Rooms from $525. 79 Crosby St., 212-226-0055; crosbystreethotel.com
