Jewelry to Love: Wilfredo Rosado

Jewelry designer Wilfredo Rosado’s pieces move us.

July 20, 2011

FROM TOP: Fringe cuff bracelet ($100,000); large lariat ($115,000)

Wilfredo Rosado
makes jewelry that moves. His fringe cuff bracelet ($100,000) is inspired by Beyoncé after all: The gold bangle with diamond-tipped chains shimmies and shakes just as wildly as the superstar—and looks nearly as mesmerizing doing it. Rosado launched his line of fine jewelry in February and already has a roster of celebrity fans including Gwyneth Paltrow and Rihanna. Many pieces in the collection feature moving parts or interchangeable pieces like colorful feathers from Maison Lemarie. The lariats have removable feathers that can be worn as broaches and removable chains that can be worn as bracelets. Pink plume earrings ($65,000) show off magnetic feathers that attach to diamond studs to transform them into sweeping drop dangler—for when you take your place on the stage.

Sweet Treats

François Payard launches popsicles.

July 19, 2011

Last year he enchanted us with ultra-rich brownie and vanilla-bean ice cream sandwiches. This summer François Payard adds another layer of cool by adding creamy pop-ups to the menu at Chocolate Bar and the François Payard Bakery. The ice cream pops come in chocolate-coconut-chocolate or raspberry-coconut-strawberry flavors, and both will make you feel like a kid again (in a good way).

Movado Celebrates Derek Jeter's 3,000th Hit

Movado launches a special edition Bold watch in honor of the baseball milestone.

July 18, 2011

The limited-edition Movado Bold

Hitting 3,000 hits in Major League Baseball is pretty major, and when Derek Jeter hit the milestone on July 9 Movado Group Inc, for whom Jeter is a brand ambassador, launched a special edition Bold watch in celebration of the super star. Jeter is the first Yankee to achieve this remarkable feat.

This special edition watch is the innovative new Movado Bold bracelet model featuring an indigo blue metallic dial customized with Jeter’s number "2" at 2:00. The case-back is engraved to commemorate his 3,000th hit. Only 300 pieces have been issued. Packaged in a special sleeve accompanied by a thank you note from Jeter, each watch retails for $550. Movado will donate $100 for each piece sold to Jeter's Turn 2 Foundation, which Jeter established in 1996 to develop youth programs.

"I sincerely thank Movado for their generous support of the Turn 2 Foundation," said Jeter. "I started the foundation in 1996 to encourage kids looking for direction to pursue healthy lifestyles and academic excellence. Made possible by our supporters, our programs help these children develop the skills and character they'll need to become tomorrow's leaders." Call 1-888-4-MOVADO to order.

Sephora At Your Service

The beauty store now offers same-day delivery in Manhattan.

July 18, 2011

Brooklyn Decker

Makeup always seems to run out at the most inconvenient times. Now with Sephora’s same-day delivery service ($15), restocking is a breeze. Orders (minimum $50) placed between 8 AM and 11 AM Monday through Friday in Manhattan will be delivered between noon and 9 PM. Brooklyn Decker helped kick off the service at the Flatiron location last week. “In New York, you can get everything from food to clothing [delivered],” said Decker. “[But this] is the first thing of its kind.” After cutting the ribbon, she hopped into the official Sephora striped MINI Cooper to hand deliver the first package to one lucky customer. The model already had in mind what she’d be getting for her first delivery.“I’m going to be ordering the Benefit boxed blush and the Sephora lip stains,” says Decker. “They always have great seasonal colors and I love bright lips for summer, so I’m going to get a fuchsia one and a red one.” Call 877-SEPHORA to place a same-day delivery.

Rag & Bone: The Writing On The Wall

Street art makes its way to the Houston Street storefront.

July 18, 2011

Rag & Bone put a good wall to good use at its store on Houston and Elizabeth when Marcus Wainwright and David Neville started houston/PROJECT in 2010. The designers offered up the side of the building to prominent and emerging street artists as a place to showcase their work. Nicholas Forker kicked off this year’s series in May with “Action Man,” which is now covered by a wheat-paste backdrop of Peter Bruegel’s “The Triumph of Death” and a big red rooster. The artist known as Gaia spent three days putting up the new installation in front of a crowd of SoHo onlookers. His large-scale images often depict a symbolic animal avatar that acts as protector of the space. Keep your eyes peeled for more artists’ work throughout the year. 73 E. Houston St.

Bob Mackie Illustrations

Famed designer Bob Mackie opens his archives and puts his prints up for sale.

July 15, 2011

The Sultan of Sequins. The Rajah of Rhinestones. Bob Mackie holds many unofficial tittles that play up his flair for the outré. The designer has gone down in history for dressing some of the biggest names in showbiz in some pretty outlandish outfits, including Tina Turner, Liza Minnelli, Barbara Streisand, Diana Ross and Cher (whose infamous chain-mail, leather and feather headdress combo made waves on the red carpet at the 1986 Academy Awards). He also spent more than a decade designing for The Carol Burnett Show where he collected nine Emmy Awards and was inducted into the Television Academy Hall of Fame. Mackie has notoriously kept a tight lid on his archive of costume illustrations, but is now releasing 46 framed gicleé prints for sale at bobmackie.com. Each print is available in two sizes, 14” x 17” ($69) and 21” x 25” ($179). Headdress not included.
