A scene from The Great Gatsby

In honor of the new film adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel The Great Gatsby, The Plaza Hotel asked Oscar-winning costume and set designer Catherine Martin to create a Gatsby-themed holiday tree. Martin is the production designer for the new film (out May 10, 2013), which stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Gatsby and Carey Mulligan as Daisy.

Set to be lit on November 26, the tree is trimmed with more than 100 pounds of glass, silver, and gold ornaments. A special Tree Lighting Tea ($79 per person; $45 per child) that includes a Champagne toast, as well as a mocktail toast for younger guests, will follow the lighting

In addition, The Palm Court restaurant will add a Gatsby cocktail and “Fitzgerald Tea for the Ages” to its holiday offerings. Reservations for the lighting ceremony and tea are open to the public and can be made via phone or email. Fifth Avenue at Central Park South, 212-546-5300; palmcourt@fairmont.com
