The Bianca chair

To give you an idea of just how much attitude Kitty McBride’s chairs have, we will start with the names of them: There is Sonny, a lime-green Louis XVI fauteuil upholstered in purple velvet and brass studs with a matching ottoman; Gracie, an antique settee made over with a coat of pink and orange crush brocade; and Snooki and JWoww, a pair of black Victorian side chairs upholstered in a look-at-me teal peacock print. The chairs in McBride’s Divine Chair Company are no wallflowers—they are loud, eccentric attention hogs—and we can’t get enough. The designer refurbishes old chairs in colorful, unexpected fabrics (she just got a new batch in from London) and sells them at the Sunday Greenflea Market on the Upper West Side. The posh Bianca (shown) is a taste of what’s to come, and if you have a piece in need of a re-do, McBride takes custom orders, too.
