Chris Hemsworth

Chris Hemsworth hammered his way onto screens during a Cinema Society and Acura-hosted screening of Thor over the weekend. The Aussie actor was on hand and all smiles when listening to director Kenneth Branagh introduce him to a packed movie theater on 19th Street.

“When I started this project, I was told not to be concerned with any of the special effects,” Branagh said. “Instead my job was to find Thor. And so we began this process and knew we needed someone who was 6’4”, fought like a beast and looked like a God, yet is a considerable actor. Thus after three or four months, after meeting all sorts of wonderful people, we were absolutely clear in the choice of this new Australian Viking, so it’s my great pleasure to introduce you to someone who, as they say, you’ll be hearing a great deal about. He is the mighty Thor, Mr. Chris Hemsworth.”

With that the actor strode to the front of the room to (somewhat) bashfully wave at the crowd, which included the likes of Howard and Beth Ostrosky Stern, Amar’e Stoudemire, Marisa Tomei and fashion designer Valentino Giammetti. Guests stayed through the end of the credits, enjoying a sneak peek at the next installment of the comic series of movies before heading over to the top of The Standard Hotel for the after party.

There, in the breathtaking room, we tried to get an interview with Hemsworth, but the film’s publicist kept assuring us that the shockingly tall and wide actor was too tied up “at the moment.” But each moment we happened to look over, all we saw was a throng of swooning ladies encircling Hemsworth, whose bashful look had been replaced by a sly grin. Busy, indeed.
