1 - Bastille Day at the Botanical Garden

In celebration of Bastille Day, or French Independence Day, the New York Botanical Garden will host a reading of French symbolist poetry this Saturday in partnership with the Poetry Society of America. Part of a new weekly series, the readings are meant to accompany the exhibit "Monet's Garden" and will include selections from Baudelaire, Rimbaud, Mallarmé, and Verlaine. This Saturday's event (4 PM) will focus on the poetry of Baudelaire, with readings by poets Richard Howard and Rowan Ricardo Phillips and writer Nancy Milford, a biographer of Edna St. Vincent Millay. The garden exhibit is a gorgeous homage to Monet's garden at Giverny, the subject of many of the artist’s paintings. The readings will continue on Saturdays through October 20. Bronx River Parkway at Fordham Road, 718-817-8700
